My first concert was the 102.1 New Rock Fest at the Marcus Amphitheater in Milwaukee. I went with a college friend named Aaron. I had a mild interest in about half of the lineup and went primarily for Beck who was touring on the Odelay album, which was one of my favorite albums at that time. I also watched Tonic, Sponge, The Gufs, Matchbox 20, Republica and the Bloodhound Gang. The most memorable parts of the show were The Bloodhound Gang covering Weezer’s – Sweater song, by singing the chorus and singing “Wu Tang Clan ain’t nothing to fuck with” for the lyrics to all of the verses. I also recall seeing a teenage girl at the show early in the day that had hair almost identical to the singer from Republica and that she went absolutely batshit during their set. Some guy in front of us smuggled in a pint of some alcohol which he dropped, shattering it and resulted in cutting himself and requiring medical attention. Dumbass should have just bought $7 beers in plastic cups. All in all fun show. Thoroughly enjoyed Beck’s set although it was short due to festival times/set changeovers.
